All the three Guests delivered some exceptional and inspirational keynotes. The event saw attendance by high profile personalities, a galaxy of speakers, delegates from across the country from hospitals, healthcare IT companies, government, and industry bodies. The conference also had an exhibition area which drew a lot of attention by the participants.
Dr. Ataat Khan in his opening remarks opined that generally the adoption of IT in Hospitals has been poor and we cannot blame the Doctors for its abysmal state of affairs as the solutions are really not up to the mark. The solutions according to him that we have in the market have been designed by techies and most of them do not keep the user, in this case Doctor in mind. Predominantly these tech companies are owned by people with finance/business or tech background and nothing really came from the end user side. Big Multinationals tried their hand on coming out with products but unfortunately failed, one of possible reasons is the width and depth that one need to fathom is gigantic. According to Dr. Ataat, the challenges to be addressed are First, as a Doctor end user the most important aspect for Healthcare IT is Usability and the intuitiveness of the user interface. The second important aspect is the degree of integration as systems in silos don’t work. The third is comprehensiveness and fourth is affordability, especially in the Indian context. Healthcare IT is no longer a luxury and it is but a necessity. Technology is an enabler and a lot need to be done on the process standardization front wherein HIMSS can be play a major role and can be the platform. Doctors are not data entry operators but need to do a whole lot of documentation.
